ARISE - Alliance to Reward Initiatives and Social Enterprise

The Administrator, ARISE South Leeds, c/o Polo PR Partnership, 25 Hornbeam Square South, Harrogate HG2 8NB. Tel: 01423 870134. This has been set up by 3 companies - Land Securities Group, Evans Property Group and Munroe K. It provides grants of up to £1,000 via a very simple, one-page application process. It is only open to groups, organisations or individuals working in South Leeds including Morley, Gildersome, Rothwell, Hunslet, Middleton, Belle Isle, Beeston and Holbeck. It focuses on support for initiatives and socially-based activities.

Community Action Support Programme - CATS

Contact Anila Ali on 01274 735844. Developed by Asian Trade Links, this provides a range of capacity building support services to organisations in West Yorkshire allowing them to engage in and develop work-based training and learning provision that will support them through the transition of becoming an independent learning provider. This is available free of charge for all community-based organisations and includes access to a Capacity Building Advisor and a free toolkit.

Greenfingers Leeds Community Care Fund for Older People

Bringing the pleasure of gardens and gardening into the lives of older and disabled people.
Grants up to £500 are available for organisations to develop new projects or extend existing ones that provide opportunities for older or disabled people to enjoy and participate in gardens and gardening. Projects could include intergenerational gardening projects, developing gardens that are used by groups of older people, improving access to a community allotment, projects enabling older or disabled people to become more active in maintaining their own gardens.

Applications can be made by voluntary organisations that are located within the Leeds City Council boundary. There are no deadlines - applications are considered on receipt and we aim to issue a cheque within a month of receiving your application. There is a total of £5000 available in the fund for 2008-09.

There are two funds currently open for applications.

Sport Relief Fund makes grants of £250-£2,500 to groups that are using sport or exercise to strengthen local communities and provide opportunities for individuals who are excluded or disadvantaged through low income, rural or social isolation, age, disability, race, sexuality or gender.

The Four Acre Trust Fund makes grants of between £4,000 and £10,000 to groups working which children & young people on preventative projects or programmes that help them develop new skills.

Leeds Rag

Leeds University students run a number of fundraising events during the year. Leeds RAG are currently debating the way it donates. If you are a charity interested in knowing if there are any opportunities for funding from Leeds RAG.

Resourcing the Community manage two grants programmes:
a. First Steps. For groups with an income of under £5,000 based in the Objective 2 area of Leeds. Grants of up to £750 can be given for grassroots activity in local communities.
b. Consultancy Fund. This can be used to pay for specialist capacity building consultancy for small community/voluntary organisations. Grants of up to £2000 are available on areas such as business planning, fund-raising strategy, organisational development and feasibility.

They used to manage the Leeds Voice Neighbourhood Renewal Community Chest which provided grants of up to £5,000 per year to community groups and small voluntary organisations. Unfortunately this scheme is no longer running.

The Scarman Trust

The Scarman Trust (www.novasscarman.org ) manages two funds.
a. The Community Champions Fund on behalf of the Government Office for Yorkshire & The Humber in West Yorkshire. The fund helps support and develop the work of local people who are involved in, or who want to be involved in, changing their communities for the better. The Fund offers small grants (usually of up to £2000) to individuals who want to make a difference in their communities.

b. The Big Boost is a National Lottery supported national initiative being administered, locally, by the Scarman Trust. This gives awards of between £250 and £5,000 to young people, to help them get their ideas off the ground.

Wade's Charity

Wade's Charity gives grants of up to £2,000 to groups operating in the pre-1974 boundary of the city of Leeds. This is roughly - but not entirely - places with a postcode between LS1 and LS17. Main aim is to support " the provision of facilities for recreation, amusement, entertainment and general socializing for people of every age in the City of Leeds including the establishment of what are commonly known as Community Centres and Youth Centres". Groups must be registered charities, locally-based. To apply groups are asked to submit information in writing including: registered charity number; name and address of organisation; your own name and contact address if different to above; brief details of your proposal, including costs (2-3 pages of A4); copy of your latest accounts. West Yorkshire Police

West Yorkshire Police Community Trust, Tel: 01924 292230 www.westyorkshire.police.uk . Go to Community Trust page Email: communitytrust@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk This fund has different themes for different grant rounds. The current one is "initiatives to reduce criminal damage." The fund is open to small charities, community and not-for-profit groups who aim to improve community safety and reduce crime via projects that directly involve parents and carers. The maximum grant is £500. Check for deadlines. The current deadline for submission of applications is 22 August 2008.
